Boxing Hand Wraps
June 10 | Posted by Erik | Pro Boxing Equipment Tags: boxing hand wraps, everlast, hand protection, titleHand wraps are mandatory if you plan on punching anything besides air in the gym. People always talk about how boxers hands are always so mangled, deformed and disgusting. They automatically assume that it is from all of the punching they do in the gym that causes their hands to just break down over time.
Most of the time, this is incorrect. Remember, boxing is a violent sport and I always say you’ve got to be a little crazy to get in the ring with anyone. Most of the fighters you see with mangled hands have a short temper and tend to punch things whenever they get frustrated or angry. I’ve seen fighters punch doors, walls, chairs and even people without any hand wraps or gloves out of anger.
Choosing the Right Hand Wraps
In order to prevent this, you’ll want to select the right hand wraps. I recommend the 180″ hand wraps because they allow you to properly wrap your hand and provide some cushioning to your knuckles. The 120″ ones are usually too short to get a proper wrap.
Boxing Hand Wraps
My favorite hand wraps because they are somewhat elastic, providing a much snugger fit to my hand as well as being very durable. I’ve had a pair of Title Hand Wraps that have lasted me over 5 years of daily usage!
Additionally, I love the fact that their hand wraps are constructed of thick cloth so it adds that much more cushion to your knuckles. There are times where I’ll spar with 8oz gloves with these hand wraps on and I won’t even feel the impact on my hands.
The oldest brand in boxing, Everlast has been a stable boxing product. I’ve heard some people complain lately about the quality of products coming from Everlast but I’ve never had a problem with the quality for as long as I’ve been using their equipment.
Whichever hand wraps you chose, make sure you follow the directions that come with most of these wraps on how to properly wrap your hands and always use them!
Because your hand wraps will be accumulating a lot of sweat in a dark area that harbors bacteria, make sure you wash them frequently to prevent any infections or diseases.
