I need YOUR opinion for the future of BoxingTips.net
May 3 | Posted by | News & Opinion Tags: build muscle, burn fat, fat, fitness, lean muscle, lose weightEver wonder what the secrets of the top athletes are to get their bodies into that cut and sculpted form?
A lot of you are saying to yourselves that it is all because the athlete can afford a personal trainer and they have nothing but time on their hands to work out all day.
While the personal trainer part is true, I know a lot of top athletes who don’t spend all day training. In fact, I know a lot of boxers who have grueling full time jobs. Many of them working in a warehouse or a shipping yard where they are absolutely exhausted at the end of their shift and still find a few minutes out of their day to train.
I’ve been around the sport of boxing for most of my life, probably 20 of my 23 years on this earth. I’ve had the chance to see some great training techniques as well as amazing ways to “cut” weight so that the fighter was not only able to meet the weight requirements, he was also able to maximize his power and energy, as well as being in amazing shape while doing it!
I’ve even put a lot of these techniques and tips to the test. When I was young, I was very gullible when it came to training and getting into shape. I really believed the claims that supplement companies made were the answer to all my prayers and it wasn’t my eating or training habits that were holding me back.
Every month when a new boxing or fitness magazine would come in the mail, I’d scour over each page to find a new training tool or piece of equipment or even for a new exercise that would make me that lean and cut person I wanted to become…
While these training products were usually very good, none of them were that magic pill I was looking for.
I’ve had the chance to read two of the top selling books on the internet when it comes to fitness:
And while I think both of these books are valuable resources when it comes to getting your body into shape, I just feel that they follow the trend of the fitness industry today of over complicating fat loss and lean muscle gain.
I like to use the analogy of a lion or tiger when it comes to discussing training techniques.
We all know lions and tigers are extremely muscular animals but do you think that they worry about subcutaneous and visceral fat or their rate of metabolism to become lean, agile and strong?
While some will say that comparing wild animals to humans is like comparing apples to oranges, I feel that by not over analyzing the situation, a person could be in incredible shape without starving themselves, drastically changing their eating habits or spending hours and hours every day in the gym.
I feel this is why so many people lose weight only to gain it back in a matter of months. They take themselves out of their element and routine that they loved for most of their life and tried a radical change. Once they stop the diet, they go back to doing what they love whether that be eating sweets or exercising only twice a week.
A lot of people who know me know that I eat whatever I want and stay in shape. I don’t have any genetic predisposition to being skinny, most of my family is overweight, nor do I take any supplements or cheat in anyway.
Instead, I have an understanding of my body and what I need to do to keep it in shape, allowing me to enjoy my favorite foods.
I plan to write an entire system based on my understanding of weight loss and fitness and of everything I’ve learned in all the years of being in a gym.
My plan is to make this system the most complete and comprehensive system that you’ll find available but broken down into simple, non esoteric terms. A lot of the books out there try to bog you down with sesquipedalian terms (sorry, I had to do that, sesquipedalian simply means, in a nut shell, long words) to make you think they’re the foremost expert in fitness and weight loss.
I’m not going to do that, I’m going to break it down into easy to understand concepts and analogies that will stick in your brain and only help you to stay lean, sculpted and happy.
The reason I am posting this is that I’d like to get some of your questions, concerns and requests when it comes to my system.
- What would you like to see in this system?
- What questions would you like answered in it?
- Are there any particular areas of the body you’d like me to most focus on when discussing exercises?
Use the comment section below to discuss this new system and I’ll answer them as we go along directly on here so that everyone who is interested will be exposed to the questions, comments and concerns. Everyone who leaves a comment will be given optional access to my soon to be released FREE newsletter before anyone else.
I really appreciate your help in this because I truly want to create a system that will blow away any of the competition. One that will not require me to give some fancy sales pitch, rather one that will rely on word of mouth as to its effectiveness for marketing.
Thanks,
Erik

Hey Erik,
Your website is great. I am a beginner in the sport and late to the game as well. I personally would like to see drills on footwork. I am VERY heavy footed and would love to see your system incorporate high speed and intensity footwork on movement, weight distribution and pivoting. Can't wait for you to get the videos up. Good luck on your project. Get well soon but don't stop working on this site.
William
Thanks William!
I'll tell you one secret for great footwork that I've always implemented…the jump rope.
I've got a bunch of other exercises as well that are used to really focus on footwork so look out for those.
What weight class are you currently in?
I am currently 212lbs in Heavyweight, but I would like to break down to Jr. Heavyweight or Light Heavyweight.
Well, getting down to less than 200lbs is no problem I'm sure your trainer has already told you that. Remember though, at the amateur level, the heavyweight division has been of late the least competitive division.
I have seen a few heavyweight fighters here in New York in the past who I've destroyed in sparring make it to the semi-finals of the Golden Gloves because of all the "bye's" they get from lack of competition.
It's just something to think about. If you have any video of your fights, I'd love to see it. If you're good enough, I've got tons of connects and am always looking to manage fighters.
Hey Erik,
Nope I don't have any videos and I haven't had any fights. I am very green if you know what I mean. I had no idea you were in the city, moved here 3 years ago. Thanks for the footwork post very helpful.
Hi Erik, I just found your website and I'm extremely impressed. You clearly know what you're talking about and all the information is extremely informative and useful. I boxed a little in my early twenties and have taken it up again a few months ago at the age of38! I am under no illusions as to what level I will reach at this age, but I find it's great for my fitness and confidence. I would love to know what your opinion is of older guys taking up boxing and realistically what can be achieved. Keep up the good work, Mike
